Everything revolves around the kitchen for us. It’s not just a place to pop a frozen meal into the microwave. Quite the opposite is true. Austin and I are very fond of cooking, and spend many hours there together creating, and of course, cleaning up!
So when it comes to the design of the kitchen, we aren’t messing around! I really like the look of window backsplashes, such as this example we saw in a model home recently. It is a great way of brightening up the kitchen with natural daylight.
In our current design, the kitchen sink sits directly in front of a window, flanked by millwork cabinets and backsplash windows on both sides.
We have an 8′ section of bar-height counter top with 4 stools shown. This spot will be great for entertaining guests, serving breakfast, or for people to sit and visit while the cooks prepare the meal.
The cooktop is facing towards the living room, with an island vent hood above. The refrigerator is to the right of the pantry. Additional milllwork cabinets are positioned to the right of the refrigerator. Across the hall from the kitchen is the “bar” – aka Alcohol Room.
The pantry, with its sliding barn door, is purposely oversized. We’ll install a work-height counter top for hefty appliances, such as a microwave or Ninja blender, to reside and be easily accessible but out of sight of the main kitchen area.
